Volunteer Opportunities

“Deeds of open kindness are superior to charity…charity can only be accomplished with money; deeds of loving-kindness can be accomplished through personal involvement as well as with money.”--Talmud

We encourage our members of all ages to take an active part and create a community with a sense of obligation to perform acts of loving-kindness and tikkun olam.

We invite you to participate in one or more of the activities listed below. Please e-mail Vicki Karmona at Vicki@sephardictemple.org to let us know how you would like to participate. The list is growing and we are always open to new ideas and suggestions.

Green Team: God expects us to guard the planet and protect it’s beauty. STTI is committed to protecting the environment through education and practice. It is the mission of the Green Team to practice, educate, suggest and recommend environmentally responsible living.

Israel Committee: The Israel Committee is responsible for organizing programs on the issues important to Israel. This includes lectures, fund raising for the poor in Israel, and trips to Israel.

Bikkur Holim: Visiting the sick, the lonely and the elderly is every Jewish person’s obligation and through our visits we have the ability to brighten up the day for an elderly and fulfill a Mitzvah.

SOVA Food Drive: We encourage you to bring canned food, cereal and other non-perishable items that will be donated to SOVA – a non sectarian program of Jewish Family Service of Los Angeles dedicated to eliviating hunger through food distribution.

Sisterhood: The Sisterhood offers an opportunity to every woman who share common interest to be a part of a larger community of Sephardic women. Develop lasting friendships and be a part of one of the most traditional and vital organizations in the Jewish world. Book Clubs, cooking classes, exercise classes, field trips, picnics are one a small part of the Sisterhood.

Greeters/Ushers: We want all those who enter our doors to be warmly welcomed. This is for every Shabbat and every holiday service. We strongly encourage all members including Talmud Torah students over the age of 13 to participate in this Mitzvah at least 6 times a year.

Personal, spiritual and intellectual growth is strongly influenced by our acts of giving our hearts, our resources and our efforts to those less fortunate and to the environment we live in. It is our sincere hope that you will choose to join in our communities effort of tikkun olam.
